The Moundbuilder track team traveled to Pittsburg State Saturday, Feb. 1 to compete in the Wendy’s Invite.
Edward Ortiz, head track coach, said, “It was good competition and a turning point for us to really buckle down.”
Trey White, biology freshman, placed fourth in the men’s high jump and is now ranked second in the KCAC with a 1.91m jump.
“It’s very exciting to be ranked second, but I know I can do a lot better as I have in the past,” said White. “My coaches know what they’re doing and they’re the reason I’m able to succeed. I know I’ll be able to do better with them helping me the entire way.”
Among other runners, Tierney Sutton, communication senior, and Kacie Lancaster, business sophomore, are now ranked for the 1K in the KCAC.
For the fourth indoor meet in a row, Adrien Jones, accounting junior, broke her personal record in the 60m sprint with an 8.17.
“I’ve told myself a goal to hit and I’ve just been getting closer and closer,” said Jones.
The 60m is a newer event for Jones. She took a year off to train and get stronger physically and mentally.
Jones gives credit to her coaches saying, “My coach has really pushed me to give it my all at every meet.”
The team is looking forward to next weekend where they will compete in the JD Martin Invitational in Norman, OK.
“A lot of people were off this weekend because we are resting and planning for big things in OU,” said Ortiz.
