Southwestern College will play a football game against Friends University on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Falcons will be hosting the game at their home field, Adair-Austin Stadium, at 6 p.m. The Moundbuilders are (1-13) against the Falcons since 2004, after a 20-13 loss last year.

The Moundbuilders currently have a (1-0) record this season, while holding a (5-0) win streak. The Falcons are (0-1) this season. The Moundbuilders will try to keep up the momentum after an impressive 76-14 win over Graceland University, last Saturday.  The Falcons look to bounce back after a season opening loss to the Doane Tigers.

Keyshawn Wyatt, sophomore running back, leads the Moundbuilders in rushing after the first game with a total of 96 yards on nine rushes. Christian Gordon, senior quarter back, acquired 188 passing yards last game, with a completion percentage of 0.467. Tanner Spencer, junior wide receiver, is currently the reception leader with four catches for 37 yards. Jay Johnson, senior defensive linemen, leads the Moundbuilders in tackles with one for a loss, nine total. Anthony Ford, senior defensive linemen, produced the only sack for the Moundbuilders.

Noah Diaz, sophomore running back, is the current Rushing Leader for the falcons with a total of 11 yards on five rushes. Dan Dawdy, sophomore quarter back, passed for 112 Yards with a completion percentage of 0.514. Jacob Jenkins, junior running back, received four catches leading the falcons in receiving with a total of 10 yards. Matt Washee, senior linebacker, acquired 12 tackles, with one for a loss. Javon Polk, defensive linemen, received the only sack for the Falcons.

When asked about the Falcons, Carvontez Gates, senior wide receiver, said, “Defensively I heard they have a physical and fast front seven, so it’ll be tough to run the ball. Their DBs will be their weakness.”

“Staying focused, doing my job to be a leader and taking it one day at a time,” said Gates about preparations for the game. “Keeping the team sane – can’t get complacent because of how the outcome went last week with our win. Don’t step off the gas.”
