The Moundbuilder softball team is looking for their first win of the season against Coffeyville Community College. The team will play at noon Sept. 23 at the Broadway Sports Complex.

The Lady Builders finished last season 10-30 overall and 5-17 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Three players earned All-KCAC selections.

Peyton Timmerman, senior utility and pitcher, Whytleigh Guerrero senior infielder, and Paige Hall, sophomore infielder, had all earned All-Conference selections last season. Timmerman was All-KCAC second team, while Guerrero and Hall had earned Honorable Mention infield selections. As returners, each of them will have some experience under their belt to lead the team this year.

“I definitely have to get people more motivated and wanting to win and not just be here to be here,” Timmerman said. “I also have to get people to communicate more because that has been a big problem in the past.”

Amber Good, head softball coach, has big expectations for this season. She expects for her team to perform well and be competitive in the KCAC.

“I’m excited to see what this team will be able to accomplish,” Good said. “We have a lot of talent and I’m expecting great things this year.”

Audrey Vorderlandwehr, assistant softball coach, is excited for this weekend. She feels that they are looking to compete at a high level.

“We have to work on our mental toughness to be successful this year,” said Vorderlandwehr. “We have a great working relationship that’s built on respect and trust.”

Good enters her 13th season as head coach and describes this year team as hardworking and dedicated.

Good said, “You can feel a competitive desire from them.”
