On the evening of Aug. 22, Southwestern College and the community surrounding it began the 2019-2020 school year with the annual Moundbuilding ceremony.
Many students, staff, and members of the community gathered to commemorate the “Building of the Mound.” This tradition was started by Dean Leroy Allen, way back in 1927. On the first Thursday of each school year, students gather to hear Dean Leroy Allen’s original speech and contribute to the mound.
Many will bring a painted rock to toss with a friend or roommate, organizations will procure a gilded stone, and if you are the football team, you will toss in a literal boulder. But just like years previous, everyone honors and celebrates this timeless tradition as we all grow closer as a part of the Moundbuilder family. Here’s to another great year at SC.
