“IGOR” Is the fifth studio album released by Tyler, the Creator. With Tyler’s last album “Flower Boy” being nominated in 2017 for Best Rap Album at the Grammys, the fans were expecting a big outing from the finished product on his next album. “IGOR” was released May 17th, 2019 and has since reached the No. 1 Album on the Billboard 200. Tyler has also had 8 tracks from “IGOR” be on the top Billboard 100 all at the same time.

“IGOR” tells a very troubling and complicated story of the infamous 4-letter word, L-O-V-E. Tyler tries to unravel a story of him coming out of the closet with another male lover, but tides change when said male lover isn’t ready to come out of the closet himself and hides from his true self by getting into a relationship with an unknown girl. “IGOR” is ultimately the most creative version of a break-up album I have ever heard.

Every single track from “IGOR” displays a different emotion you could experience in a relationship. From the initial crush, jealousy, being overwhelmed, anxiety, being completely content as well as being completely betrayed. The first track off “IGOR” is titled “IGOR’S THEME” which draws you in by the shrilled sound of a low-pitched siren, then beautifully transfers the listener into the world of “IGOR’s” thoughts and actions.

The second track of “IGOR” is called “EARFQUAKE” and the song goes into the initial emotions you get when you start a journey with someone you like and how they shook up the world you once knew, like an earthquake. The third entry of the album is called “I THINK” which puts the listener in a state of understanding that Tyler thinks he is falling in love and knows that love will leave him vulnerable, but he is completely okay with that. The fourth track is called “WHAT YOU RUN FROM YOU END UP CHASING” which is a 30 seconds intro into the next song called “RUNNING OUT OF TIME.” In this track, we are met with a confused Tyler because he jumped headfirst into a new relationship with his significant other. However, his lover is not ready to commit to an open relationship for everyone to know yet, and sadly their relationship is on the brink of running out of time.

The album takes a very sad turn in the fifth & sixth track to where Tyler’s lover leaves him for another because he is not ready to come out of the closet yet. A very emotional and broken Tyler is what we are left with for the rest of the album and on his ninth track, he lets listeners know so. The ninth track is called “WHAT’S GOOD”. In this song, Tyler released all of his pent-up aggression intro the track and goes into the emotions of what it’s like to be betrayed by someone you were ready to change your life with. The tenth and eleventh track is filled with more of a positively hurt Tyler. Both songs “GONE, GONE / THANK YOU” & “I DON’T LOVE YOU ANYMORE” express how Tyler would rather be by himself in this emotional void than be lied to and shown fake love by someone who doesn’t love him for who he truly is.

The last installment on this album is debatably his saddest song to-date. The last song on “IGOR” is a beautiful symphony called “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?” This song is filled with a depressed and emotionally hurt Tyler just wanting to fill that void that his past-lover left him with. Tyler searches to partially fill that void by being friends with what hurt him, his past lover. Ultimately, his past-lover left him in such an emotional wreck that he feels like a “MONSTER” to love. Tyler’s lover had died, but “IGOR” had just been born.
