The Southwestern football team welcomed the Eagles of Avila University for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Richard Jantz Field.  Avila came away with a victory by the score of 28-12.

Prior to the meeting Saturday afternoon, the Builders accumulated a record of 4-5 overall and 4-4 in KCAC play after losing last week in overtime on the road against Sterling by a score of 20-17. Avila came into the game 5-3 both overall and winning over Tabor the prior week by a score of 19-14.

The Builders received the ball from the Eagles to start the game. Coach Brad Griffin chose to start the game freshman quarter Yizalle Whitfield behind center for the Builders.

First possession for the Builders of the day led freshman Yizalle Whitfield led the offense down the field on a 15-play drive for a total of 50 yards that resulted in a Freddy Botello field goal that put the Builders out front 3-0.

The first possession for Avila resulted in a three and out punt by the Eagles to give the ball back to the Builders.

After the punt by the Eagles, no more points were scored ending the first quarter by a score of 3-0.

Starting the second quarter, Avila put six on the board courtesy of a touchdown run handoff by Malik Nesbitt taking the lead 6-3. The extra point by Benton Leighow put the Eagles ahead 7-3 with 13:43 left to go in the half.

Later in the half, the Builders came away with another Freddy Botello field-goal to inch closer with a score of 7-6.

Just before the half, John Jacobs of Avila passed to Christian Hopkins for a touchdown and extra point to move the score to 14-6 with 00:19 left in the quarter and ending the half.

Starting the half scoring, the Eagles connected on another touchdown pass courtesy of John Jacobs to Hopkins again to take the lead after the extra point 21-6. After this score, the third quarter ended with the same score of 21-6.

The start of the fourth quarter resulted in a touchdown run by Malik Nestbitt for 41 yards. This run capped by the extra point moved the game to 28-6.

Both defenses in the 4th quarter stood strong most of the final quarter not allowing any score until a drive by the Builders of 7 plays for 82 yards. The drive was capped by a quarterback keeper for the touchdown by Yizalle Whitfield cutting the score to 28-12.

The score by Whitfield was the final score of the game which resulted in the final score of 28-12.
