The offense came out with high momentum and electrified the scoreboard. The Moundbuilder offense did not lay down – they kept going. Edrick Gonzales, junior wide receiver, was the best wide receiver in the game with 83 yards and one touchdown. The rushing leader of the game was Keyshawn Wyatt, carrying the ball 24 times with 172 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Early, senior quarterback, put on a phenomenal game with 280 throwing yards 47 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Despite the defensive late start, the Moundbuilders were able to bounce back, giving a great performance. The defense started swinging and did not stop with Grant Torgerson, sophomore linebacker, leading the team in tackles and Delaun LaFlore, freshman defensive back, leading the team in interceptions. Even Dalton Rogers, freshman kicker, assisted on a tackle on special teams.
After the game, the offensive players and defensive players gave plenty of feedback.
Gonzales said, “As an offensive unit, we had to step up and play our game. When you do that you get these results.”
With that, Xavier Smith, senior defense linemen, said, “We could not lay down. We had to become more physical and play our game.”
“The team played hard and the coaches coached harder. This was a great team win,” said defensive line Coach Demarcus Spurlock.
The Moundbuilder football team will play at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at Tabor College.
