On September 22, Southwestern College’s football team battled against the Bethany Swedes. After the coin toss, the Moundbuilders deferred the ball until the second half.

SC was able to stop the Swedes first drive. Woody Banks, freshman wide receiver, planted points on the board with a deep field snag.

They followed their successful drive with another defensive stop. Edrick Gonzales, junior wide receiver, shook off defenders as he squeezed his way into the end zone. The stops came frequently as the offense electrified the first half with forty-two points against the Swedes seven.

The Moundbuilders carried this momentum to the second half. The defense held the Swedes at seven points while Austin Early, senior quarterback, couldn’t stop scoring for his team. The Moundbuilders put up fifty-two points total.

“I am proud of the team we worked hard and stayed humble,” said Donny Ebanks, senior wide receiver.

“The boys worked hard, they came in today with clear tunnel vision,” said the defensive line coach, DeMarcus Spurlock, after the game.
