At 11 a.m. on Aug. 24 at Southwestern College, the fall 2018 Opening Convocation took place in the Richardson Performing Arts Center.

During Convocation, Dr. Ross Perterson-Veatch, dean of the college, recognized the Scholar of the College, Logan Weppler, biology senior.

“I didn’t expect to be named Scholar of the College,” said Weppler with a laugh. “I guess I just do my work.”

Dr. Rebecca Hernandez of George Fox University, was the speaker at Convocation. Hernandez spoke about love, acceptance and about her experience being the first one in her family to go to college.
