The (6) Southwestern College men’s basketball team got their eight game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon coming up short against York Panthers, 72-70.
Cameron Hunt, junior guard, led the game with 32 points and 11 rebounds. Dj Wallace, senior guard, and Andrew Hamm, sophomore guard, each tied for eight points. Brent Smith was able to grab 10 rebounds.
Southwestern shot 41.8 percent from the floor and 26.9 from the three-point range. The Moundbuilders were able to outrebound York 48-37.
Saturday’s game started off all Southwestern as they went on a 9-0 run to control the game. The Panthers got on their own 13-4 run to tie the game. Southwestern college was able to tie the game but not get the lead the remainder of the game. The half ended York’s lead 41-33.
Southwestern’s deficit grew to seven after a York three pointer. Cameron Hunt raced down the court get the layup with three seconds left. Horsch was able to get the steal from the inbound and he passed to DJ Wallace who was under the basket who put it up to strong and bounced off the rim with no time remaining. Resulting in the Moundbuilders second loss in KCAC play.
After the heartbreaking loss against York, Southwestern looks to face Kansas Wesleyan. Tip-off is set on Wednesdat, at 8 pm in Stewart Field House.
