Luigi’s brings Italian cuisine to Winfield

Every once in a while it is nice to try out a new place to eat. Luigi’s is a fairly new Italian restaurant along Ninth Avenue.

Despite looking small, we were very surprised at how large the restaurant was on the inside. The restaurant has a lot of sitting for small and large parties. They seem to have a separate room for larger parties. The Italian décor on the walls made you feel like you were dining in Italy.

Our server took our drink order and let us take some time to read the menu. It took a little time since there are around 60 to 70 items to choose from. Luigi’s offers salads, pasta, lasagna, pizza, soups and more. After we ordered, our server did bring us some complementary bread with some olive oil and herbs dipping, which was not complementary.

I ordered the bated ziti, which is penne pasta with ricotta cheese and marinara sauce. It was very tasty. My friend ordered the chicken alfredo. It was served with large portions of chicken and what my friend said to be more like a homemade alfredo sauce.

One thing we took away from eating at Luigi’s is that everything seemed to be homemade. Even the complementary bread.

Our service was very fast. Once we were seated and looked over the menu, our server took our order and had it out to us in about 15 minutes. We wasted no time paying the bill, as it was a pay up front type of restaurant. If you are looking for some good, homemade Italian food that is not far from school, I would recommend Luigi’s in the downtown area.
