The (8) Moundbuilder men’s basketball squad escaped near defeat in a 78-71 conference clash with (20) Oklahoma Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at the Mueller Sports Center in Bartlesville, Okla.

After a convincing first half which concluded with a 15 point advantage for the Builders, members of the Eagles chipped away and nearly pulled off the upset in the second frame by outscoring their opposition 39-31 respectively.

Sophomore guard, Cameron Hunt led the scoring efforts once again for SC, converting on 7 of 15 field goals good for 19 points on the afternoon. The Duncanville, Texas native also had six rebounds along with two assists to complement his performance on the floor.

As a team, the Builders shot an admirable 45.6 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point land, collectively propelling them to their twelfth victory on the season.

With that being noted, the Builders’ 19-point lead nearly diminished as a result of inconsistent free throw shooting particularly in the second half. SC went 15-22 from the charity strike, good for 68.2 percent overall.

The Mounbuilder men look to capitalize on their tough road win against a nationally ranked opponent in OKWU going into next week. Conference play continues with a matchup against the Spires of Saint Mary Tuesday night, Dec. 12 at Stewart Fieldhouse.
