The Moundbuilder women’s basketball team is looking for their first win of the year as they take on the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 5 p.m. Oct. 30 in the friendly confines of Stewart Field House.

The Builders finished at 14-17 overall with a 10-12 record collectively in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference last season. Furthermore, the Lady Builders were picked eighth in the preseason rankings by the coaches and media poll heading into the 2017-18 campaign.

Whitney Corley, head women’s basketball coach, enters her second season under the helm.

“We got here very quickly, but we got to have enough focus and effort put into our game preparation so we can get the season started off well,” said Corley. “They put one on us, so their coming to our place and we are hoping to send that message back to them this season.”

The Lady Builders are led by two seniors in guard, Taylor Henderson, and forward, Jordyn Miller.

Miller earned a unanimous first team honors and all-defensive team in the conference last season. She averaged 17.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. She shot 48.1 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from three-point range, 76.7 percent from the free throw line, and recorded 21 blocks and 22 steals for last season.

Miller said that, as a senior, this season mean a little more and she’s excited to go out and compete with Lady Builder Basketball each night.

“It’s extremely bitter sweet. I’m ecstatic to get the season going especially playing the first game in Steward Field House,” said Miller. “It’s also bitter due to the fact it’s finally hitting home for me that this is it.”

Henderson said she is developing a stronger bond with her teammates. “I’m still learning a lot about these girls every day and our relationship is continuing to grow. I’m glad that I will be spending my last year here with them,” she said.
