Volleyball plans comeback from 0-5 record

The Builders had a promising start Monday at York College, winning the first two sets, 26-24 and 25-20. The team dropped the next three sets, 25-15, 25-21, and 15-12. The team is now 2-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

After the game, Carolina Garbato, head volleyball coach, said, “They played hard. We dragged ourselves in a hole by losing game three. We also had two injuries that hurt us. They are a strong, hard working group of young girls and all of their hard work will pay off. It is just taking a little longer than expected.”

Catabrean Baumann, junior setter, had five blocks. Baumann said, “We made too many errors during crunch time. We are working toward being more confident in pressure situations as a team. We had a great run to start off the set and we needed to use that momentum to carry us through.”

Garbato said, “We need to work on our mental game more than our athletic game.” She also, said, “Our block was solid, especially in games one and two.”

Alyxandra Blaker, freshman middle, had five blocks and two aces. Blaker said, “We want to improve on becoming one as a team and to stay focused on the court.”

Other stat leaders were Kanami Ellis, freshman outside hitter, with 14 kills and Rylie Ingram, sophomore defensive specialist, with 24 digs.

Blaker said, “I think we will take this loss as a lesson and that we know we can only improve from here.”

Baumann said, “This week is really important for us. We play three conference matches. York today, Bethel at home on Wednesday and Bethany on Friday. We need to use tonight as motivation moving forward. Our next two games are crucial as we are getting into the heat of conference play.”

The Lady Builders take on Bethel (3-7 overall and 1-4 in KCAC) at 7 p.m. tonight in Stewart Field House.
