The Southwestern Moundbuilders tennis teams scrimmaged Cowley College on Saturday, September 2, 2017. The team struggled, however the team remains optimistic for the rest of the season.

Even though it was a tough loss, Jason Speegle, head tennis coach, was impressed on how his team played. He was pleased in how they played hard and competed.

However, Speegle did face problems when it came to having a strong team bond. He, had few returners to lead the team, and plenty of new comers who need guidance and bonding.

Speegle was impressed overall by multiple key players. He is excited with the amount of athletes that is on the team this season, 13 boys and 12 girls.

Feeling that he reached his full potential in his singles match. Sheldon Hawthorne, sophomore tennis, said “Don’t give up, and play calm.”

Meghan Kindred noted that her opponent had a bad backhand, but had a great over hand. Kindred, explained she was pretty nervous on the court over coming her fears by competing back. She also plans to work on her first serve lands and completions.
