Women’s golf takes sixth place at the 2014-2015 KCAC Championship Tournament at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City.
The ladies were tied for second place after round one with a score of 355. Unfortunately, the team dropped four places after carding a 368 second round. They finished with a total of 723 and land them in sixth.
The Builders followed first place, University of Jamestown, by 39 strokes. Ottawa University finished eight shots better than the Builders and claimed fourth place.
It is no surprise that once again the Builders were led by Hannah Mason, biology senior. Mason finished in fourth place overall with a 84-82—166. She trailed first place, Kamie Rash of Kansas Wesleyan, by six strokes.
Mason said, “The course is set up and kind of plays tricks on the eyes. It is a tough course that makes it hard on depth reception. I wish the outcome was better, but we’re still having fun.”
Next for the Builders is Alyssa Richardson, communication senior. She tied for eighth place, just three shots shy of Mason and 11 strokes outside of first place. Richardson carded a 89-82—171.
Richardson said, “I think the pressure of qualifying for Nationals got to some of us during the second round. It was tough to concentrate with the pressure.”
Mason leaves the team with words for the 2015-2016 Women’s golf team. “Have fun, focus on one shot at a time and be confident in what you do,” said Mason.
